Hi!! I enter to "voa learning English Podcast". There are several news there about the world, I chose "China misleads on involvement in Panama Canal", and I listened to the new carefully. I learnt some new words: misleading, strengthen, commitment, involvement, seaports.
Majo
Episode: "All About Egg Colors" from Stuff You Should Know.

https://open.spotify.com/episode/0SvBHrZNvwq0DDLvIjA6rD?si=cf6ed539505b4f06

WORDS and examples:

  • dawn on (someone)
I was about to pay when it dawned on me that I'd forgotten my wallet.

  • speckled
The speckled wall gave the cottage charm and character.

  • pop up
The words "Not found" popped up on the screen.

  • regardless
The plan for a new office building went ahead regardless of local opposition.

  • bleached
Sunlight had bleached the curtains.

  • hens
She went out to look for the hens.

  • breed
That breed is known to bay loudly.

  • poultry
The setting is very nice, with poultry around the house.

I found it quite difficult to understand some words because of the pronuntation. It's so "relaxes, native and casual" that I couldn't follow. These words are not hard to understand or pronunce outside of context, was hearing them clearly in a sentence or maybe connecting one to the next.

2- a sorry sight
After the heavy rain that took place last week, some little towns  were a sorry sight.
3- be a tall order
Getting the renovation of the building on schedule is going to be a tall order.
4- fainthearted
That trekking in the Chalten mountain was not for the fainhearted tourists.
5- come full circle
After making a lot of changes in the education guidelines we have come full circle and the students deficits in maths still remain.

I've found it difficult to write the knew expressions or words, i've got to investigate a bit, but it was interesting. This podcast has texts to read too and with them you can complete and understand what you  listen.
